At  the VFW & Auxiliary dinner prior to our Feb. 9 meetings Kathrene Hinkle was honored for her 50 years of dedicated service to the VFW Auxiliary.  Kathrene was presented with a plaque and a fifty year membership pin. Pam Elasaesser, one of our members made a very special cake for the occasion which was beautiful and delicious.  (We know Kathrene shared it with us.) The auxiliary is happy to help send Kathrene to the 2010 National Convention.

Kathrene shared that her late husband was a veteran of WWII and her brother a veteran of the Korean Conflict.  She said that she has loved working with the organization for these 50 years.  She loves the organization, what it stands for and all the good it does for the veterans and the community.

Kathrene has served in many capacities over the years. She has held most every position at the local and district level including being district president for six terms. If we need to know how something should be done we know who we can ask. We are grateful to have Kathrene in our organization.

WE SURVIVED ANOTHER FAIR!  We did great because it was such a team effort.  (Even the weather cooperated).  A special thanks to each of you auxiliary members and auxiliary friends who helped.  Thanks to those who made banana pudding, pinto beans and cornbread which were in big demand.  Thanks to those who prepared the kitchen and those who cooked and those who dished up food and wrapped those hundreds of hot dogs and burgers.  Give a big star to those who took orders and dealt with the customers.  Thanks to some of our newest members who pitched in and learned the ropes.  Thanks also to the family members of the 1343rd Chemical Company who came from as far away as Birmingham to give us a hand.  Most of all we thank Robin for her organizing, scheduling, food ordering, cleaning, and working non-stop for days before and during the entire fair.  Sit down put your feet up.  We earned it and because of it we'll be able to support many worthwhile programs with our proceeds.                                                                                                                                                                        Article by Kathy Greer
